Gongo Mama Mini Basket
Handwoven with palm leaves by Mama's in the Gongo village. This is a village within Saadani district, home to Saadani national park.
Typically women living in rural area's - like the Gongo Mama's are expected to rely on their husbands to be the breadwinners and then have to continue this cycle of being a housewife.
Once they are trained to weave baskets, they are able to produce and start selling their own stock.
By doing this they are able to have some financial independence which as you can imagine improves their life.
This project is done in partnership with Saving Africa's Nature (SANA).
